The ADCC Website & Archive
The Advertising Design Club of Canada
Contracted by SapientNitro to be the lead developer for the project. I was responsible for a number of tasks, including:
- Development of the main web site (WordPress)
- Development of the "Archive" site (Drupal)
- Archive data management
- XML generation (MODS format, bulk/batch generation)
- Database & Server Management
Working with the team at SapientNitro was a great experience. I look forward to working with them again in the future.
Additional Details
ADCC Archive Site (Drupal)
The Archive site (Drupal) is completely separate from the main WordPress site. It houses all the images and data from the ADCC Directions award books. The ADCC releases a new award book each year (since 1948) and the entire collection houses well over 150,000+ images and 100,000,000+ items of meta-data.
The ADCC Archive site is SOLR search capable. The Archive site is built with a Drupal front-end with a Fedora back-end. Fedora handles the data/databases, Islandora is used in conjunction with Drupal to manage the SOLR capable searches, faceted search results and the Admin UI for the collection itself.
Archive Data Management
Three separate companies were used to scan and capture the data from all the books.
However, it was my job to verify/correct all the incoming data and to generate a single MODS XML file for each individual item in the archive. I developed a Visual Basic Macro (for Microsoft Excel) that would batch export XML records - properly formatted in MODS format.
